Abstract
Purpose
We revised the cane for the blind by wireless technology that carries additive information according to surroundings. Methods: Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) tag was integrated into the guiding block and the RFID reader was implemented into the cane. When the cane passes over the guiding block, internal RFID reader identifies the RFID integrated in the guiding block and the voice signal matched to surrounding information or situations will be delivered to the earphone via Bluetooth wireless device. Results: Developed devices can read the RFID information in the guiding block and transfer the matched voice information to Bluetooth earphone. And the novel idea for recognizing orientation is proposed. Conclusions: By embedding RFID and Bluetooth devices into cane, surrounding information can be efficiently given to the blind.
