Bilateral Posterior Lentiglobus Detected by Screening Examination of Retinopathy of Premature

Abstract
Purpose
To report a case of bilateral posterior lentiglobus in a premature infant by screening examination for retinopathy of prematurity. Methods: An 830 g 27 week 2 day gestation infant was consulted for screening examination about retinopathy of prematurity. Fundus examed 30 weeks 5 days gestation age. Results: Stage I retinopathy of prematurity improved spontaneously. Ring like reflex appeared in red reflex through indirect ophthalmoscope from 39 weeks gestational age in both eye and looks like oil droplet in water in the central red reflex at 42 weeks completely. Axial length was 17.74/17.65 mm in both, anterior chamber depth was 2.16/2.13 mm, lens diameter was 3.84/3.89 mm. There was no specific finding in B-scan. Central posterior lentiglobus portion had −0.25 Dsph −1.00 Dcyl * 90A refractive error in cycloplegic refraction. There was no opacity that cover visual axis. Conclusions: Posterior lentiglobus is progressive well circumscribed globular bulging of the posterior capsule of the lens. Generally it is detected with accompanied cataract between 3 and 15 year of age but this case shown bilateral progressive posterior lentiglobus in a short period at premature infant. So we report this rare case with literature review. (Korean J Optom Vis Sci 2009;8(1):20-22)
