Abstract
Virtual Reality (VR) provides an artificial visual or other sensory environment by using computer modeling and simulation. Recently, the VR market is growing exponentially, and people can easily experience VR devices and their contents. VR is being used in various fields of medicine, especially for surgery simulation and patient rehabilitation. In the ophthalmologic field, the VR-based simulator provides training program for operations such as cataract surgery. The development of VR for ophthalmological examination such as visual field, and eye movement test are in progress. Quality of life can be assessed by measuring the ability to perform complex vision-based tasks in virtual environment. VR can also provide dichoptic stimuli to treat amblyopia and strabismus. Future advancement in technology for VR display and biosignal sensors would enable VR to play a greater role in the ophthalmologic field.
